REVIEW
Since 2022, more than 500 people have been sitting together at the city meal every year. In addition, in the run-up to May 5, there are all kinds of activities to raise awareness around the theme of freedom and to bring people together. We eat soup together, share stories and change from strangers to acquaintances.
What does that look like? Check out the images from 2022, 2023 and 2024 here.

On Sunday 5 May 2024, more than 50 Freedom Meals were organised throughout the city. Here you can find an impression of what all took place.
On May 5, 2025, you can once again join a Hague Freedom Meal. We celebrate that we can live together in freedom in an open and free society. From January, you will find more information about this on our website.
We hope to see you all again on Monday, May 5, 2025

Freedom gives space for new discoveries, so come and meet your fellow citizens. A resident of The Hague or a resident of The Hague? Just sit together at the table. A party for everyone.

SOUP STORIES EXHIBITION
STORIES OF FREEDOM
Curious about the stories of your fellow citizens and what freedom means to them? The Soep Stories Exhibition was on display in the City Hall (Atrium) of The Hague from 12 April to 5 May 2024. Created to make people talk and think about freedom. Eight residents of The Hague answered questions about the freedoms in their lives, past and present, and were captured on film.
WILL YOU HELP US IN 2025?
WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
Meet your fellow citizens, help organize and contribute to a new freedom tradition in The Hague; that feels good.
From the beginning of March 2025 you can register here again as a volunteer for the Freedom Meal in the Museum Quarter. Keep an eye on our socials or sign up for the newsletter!
'Freedom means that you are allowed to think, say and do what you want. That means that other people are also allowed to think, say and do what they want,'
Come on
Speak what you live
Life what you see
See what you share
And share everything you can.
