FREEDOM LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE

On Monday 5 May 2025, we celebrate eighty years of freedom. We do this by sitting down together at the table, because real connection is created at the dining table. During the Hague Freedom Meals, we celebrate that we are allowed to live together in freedom. We bring people together, share special stories and ensure that strangers become acquaintances. Join your neighbour or another fellow citizen, or organise a meal in your neighbourhood yourself.

The goal for 2025 is as clear as it is ambitious: eighty meals to celebrate eighty years of freedom.

YOU WANT TO KNOW THIS

Are you considering organizing a Hague freedom meal in 2025, but would you like to know what this actually entails? Then take our handy manual. You will get inspiration from it and read what the most successful ingredients are for organizing a successful freedom meal.

SOUP STORIES EXHIBITION
STORIES OF FREEDOM

Curious about the stories of your fellow citizens and what freedom means to them? The Soep Stories Exhibition was on display in the City Hall (Atrium) of The Hague from 12 April to 5 May 2024. Created to make people talk and think about freedom. Eight residents of The Hague answered questions about the freedoms in their lives, past and present, and were captured on film.

COME AND EAT SOUP

On 5 May, we will eat soup together at eighty locations throughout the city. Made with love and with the taste of freedom. Soup that connects, starts stories and with which we celebrate our freedom.

COME CELEBRATE FREEDOM

On May 5th we celebrate that freedom is not something to be taken for granted. We do this by meeting each other. New people or acquaintances. Will you also join us in your neighborhood? We will soon share the locations for the upcoming edition.

COME AND SEE ART

Art connects and helps to start good conversations. Theater, music and spoken word; we will serve you a portion of culture that will linger for a long time next year.

CELEBRATING FREEDOM, THIS IS HOW WE DO IT!

MEAL OF THE CITY

The city meal will take place at a very special location this anniversary year. The atrium of the city hall will be the setting for the largest Hague Freedom Meal of 2025. In collaboration with Stichting Atrium and many volunteers, we will be organizing this freedom meal for many residents of The Hague.

More about this soon.

SOUP IS FOR EVERYONE

Anyone can make soup.

When the freedom meal could not take place live during the pandemic, cans of soup were handed out out of necessity. Based on a recipe and concept by Samuel Levie & Joris Bijdendijk. That turned out to be a great success. Simple, tasty and recognizable in every kitchen. The chef who stirred the pot this year was Nick Toet. Yvette van Boven, Nadia Zerouali and London Loy preceded him.

Traditionally, the recipe for the Freedom Soup will be made by a different chef in 2025. Keep an eye on our socials for updates!
